The Opportunity

Reporting to our Head of Clinical Services we are seeking a Mental Health Clinician to join the team. This opportunity is a full time contract position until 30 June 2025.

Your role will include:

  • Providing clinical assessment, support, and ongoing management of young people within AKKF programs and services.
  • Ensuring evidence-based practice is inherent in all aspects of care and treatment and assist in disseminating knowledge throughout the clinical area and AKKF.
  • Work with the Clinical Services team to ensure that all young people have wellness intervention plans in place. 
  • Support the Head of Clinical Services in ensuring employees and volunteers are trained to deliver AKKF's programs.
  • Support employees and volunteers to monitor and manage clinical issues (including challenging behaviours) using best practice and least restrictive principles. 
  • Provide support to young people where emotional/ behavioural/ social difficulties are identified and managed appropriately.
  • Develop and maintain communications with relevant individuals about complex issues.
  • Oversee the coordination of risk issues, including consulting with relevant AKKF employees, notifying appropriate persons (parents/Child Protection etc) and completion of all relevant documentation. 
  • Facilitate a learning environment by acting as a clinical and educational resource, encouraging, and supporting professional development and role modelling lifelong learning. 
  • Promote and model person-centred, culturally safe clinical guidance, providing a senior level of professional support to employees and volunteers through proactive participation in activities and rapport building.
  • Provide clinical follow-up (as required) following a program. 
  • Follow medication protocol, ensuring medications checklist is carried out on arrival on camp, and administer medications to Young People, as required as part of the Wellness Intervention Plan.
  • Assist the Clinical Team with the development of training, Wellness Intervention Plans, audits, and risk evaluations where necessary when not on camps.

About you

This role presents an excellent opportunity for an experienced, qualified Clinical Services Practitioner to join our busy team.

To be successful in this role  you will:

  • Have a Bachelor’s in Nursing, Paramedicine or relevant Health Science (postgrad qualification desirable).
  • Have current registration with the relevant regulatory authority.
  • Demonstrated 3+ experience in a similar position/field.  
  • Demonstrate a high level of clinical critical thinking and problem-solving skills, applying theory into practice in the provision of best practice.
  • Ability to act as a clinical leader, with integrity, advocacy, transparency, and accountability.
  • Ability to recognise implicit bias and deliver unconditional positive regard.
  • Ability to engage with and build a rapport with a variety of audiences.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
  • Have a can-do, adaptable, resilient, positive, proactive attitude and approach.
  • You will be a dedicated, hard-working professional who has a calm approach to work, which enables you to be a success when it comes to managing competing priorities.
  • Self-motivated and demonstrates initiative.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks.
  • Strong communication skills (including written, oral, and virtual).
  • Have a passion for making a difference in the lives of young people.
  • Ability to work before and after hours (including weekends and evenings) as requested.
