About Kurbingui Youth & Family Development

Kurbingui Youth and Family Development (‘Kurbingui’ or the ‘organisation’) is a registered Not-For-Profit (NFP) Aboriginal community-based organisation and a Company Limited by Guarantee operating throughout the Greater Brisbane, South East and Moreton Bay regions with connections to First Nation Communities throughout Qld and nationwide. Kurbingui programs are funded by government and non-government grants as well as self-managed revenue services and activities. The organisation is governed by a Board of Directors elected and appointed from members of the community.

Kurbingui delivers a range of programs and services aimed at improving the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. These programs and services contribute to the cultural, social, emotional and spiritual wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with a strong focus on addressing isolation, social emotional wellbeing, poverty, discrimination, family issues and unemployment through the provision of case management, therapeutic support, outreach, community development, education, training, community events and activities.

Kurbingui partners with the three levels of government, other not-for-profit organisations, agencies, Elders and community members. Our staff members undertake their duties as a collaborative team working to the organisation’s policies, procedures, relevant legislation and professional practice standards. Our teams are flexible, multi-skilled and work effectively and sensitively with a diverse range of individuals, multi-disciplinary groups and community agencies to ensure high quality and culturally safe services to our community members.

The Role

The Human Resources (HR) Officer is responsible for providing professional, timely and culturally appropriate HR advice and support to senior management in line with operational objectives, organisational policies and procedures, and relevant legislations. The role has a holistic focus and supports all aspects of HR including (but not limited to) recruitment and selection, orientation and induction of new staff members, learning and development in collaboration with Practice Lead and senior management, HR administration, assistance of payroll, auditing and quality compliance, performance management, risk management, workplace health, wellbeing and safety, and HR reporting. The position also supports the finance, administration and wider team with other activities as directed.

The role has a generalist focus and supports all aspects of HR including (but not limited to):

  • Recruitment and Selection
  • Learning and Development
  • HR administration including employment contracts, letters and other documentation
  • Performance Management
  • Remuneration
  • Risk Management
  • Health and Well-being
  • Workplace Safety, and 
  • HR Reporting. 
  • The position also supports the finance and administration team with other activities as required.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Qualifications: Tertiary qualification in human resources, business, management or similar.
  • Experience in a similar HR Coordinator, Advisor or Officer role in the areas listed above. Desirable – gained in a community service or NFP environment - within the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.
  • Willing and able to work within a culturally competent context and Kurbingui's mission, vision and values.
  • Computer literacy in a variety of software packages and HRIS software's.
  • High level of communication skills; written, verbal, report-writing.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Experience in quality and risk management systems and reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively plan, organise and coordinate own workload and time management skills; as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Effective communication skills – written, verbal, interpersonal, as well as report-writing experience.
  • Demonstrated core competencies, attributes and capabilities as listed in the Position Description.
  • Current first aid and CPR certificate (desirable).
  • Open Queensland Drivers License.
  • A positive Working with Children Check (Blue Card) prior to commencement.
  • Have or willing to undergo a Police Check.
