The vision of Kurbingui Youth and Family Development is to be a deadly organisation that supports our mob on their journey. Our mission is to build a flexible, sustainable organisation based on cultural values that can empower community to reach their potential. The values that we bring to our work are personal growth, harmony, accountability, communication, and teamwork.
Kurbingui Youth and Family Development (Kurbingui) is a not-for-profit Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation that offers services primarily to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders, individuals, families, children, and young people living within the Greater Brisbane, Moreton Bay and Southeast Qld regions.
Kurbingui delivers various community services covering areas such as employment and training, family support, domestic and family violence response, alcohol and substance abuse, cultural education and engagement programs, support for families and children from preschool to tertiary education, recreation and sports, early years, families, children and youth supports, women's and men's programs, cultural group activities, Youth Justice and NDIS.
The purpose of the Yur'iinkin (Intensive Bail Initiative) Program is about reconnecting young people and healing young peoples’ connections to themselves and others. The initiative responds to the needs of young people who are “at risk” of entering into or involved in the Youth Justice System including those young people who are repeat / recidivist offenders with complex needs, to provide support to them and their kin and/or family members and where possible to reconnect through collaborative case management, diversionary programs and tailored activities . Support is also available to young people in contact with the Queensland Police Service / Youth Justice Co-Responder Team (CRT) through the Youth Engagement Practitioners, a component of the Yur'iinkin Program.
The Youth and Family Engagement Practitioners provide support and advocacy to young people to address issues influencing their offending behaviour, complete conditions of Bail and other Orders and reconnecting with their own culture/identity/kin/ and or family members. The role provides practical, mainly outreach, support to young people in line with their identified case plan and in consultation with Key Stakeholders e.g. Youth Justice, Police, Employment/Training, Health and other Community Services.
The Youth and Family Engagement Practitioners are required to work on a rotating shift roster including some evenings and weekends.
