La Trobe University is seeking an independent Animal Ethics Committee (AEC) Chair. The AEC Chair assists the university to respect and protect the welfare of animals used for scientific purpose, to minimise harm or unjust use of animals, and to ensure the use of animals has scientific or educational merit. The AEC chair must assist members to apply the governing principles set out in the Australian code for the care and use of animals for scientific purposes (8th edition, 2013), and relevant La Trobe policies and procedures, to review research and teaching proposals to ensure that the care and use of animals for scientific purposes is ethical and justified, and to monitor animal use.
