Latrobe Regional Hospital (LRH) is the major provider of specialist health services in the Gippsland region, east of Melbourne. Gippsland provides a fantastic regional lifestyle with ease of access to Melbourne. Our comprehensive range of services extends to emergency, critical care, elective surgery, allied health, obstetrics, dialysis, aged care, medical and radiation oncology at the Gippsland Cancer Care Center.

LRH has a number of outstanding facilities following a recent expansion. These include a cardiac catheterisation laboratory, a large Emergency Department, endoscopy suites and modern and contemporary inpatient units. These complement extensive Allied Health amenities including a gym and pool.

LRH is also the regional provider of mental health services in Gippsland. LRH Mental Health Service operates an integrated specialist mental health program across the region and provides inpatient and community mental health care for adults, children and young people and older persons

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a New Graduate Social Worker or a suitably qualified Social Worker to join the Social Work team at Latrobe Regional Hospital on a Full Time Ongoing basis.

Reporting to the Social Work Manager the successful applicant will play an important role in supporting our patients/clients with the psychosocial support required to cope with chronic or acute illness.

The successful applicant will be required to:

  • Focus on optimising psychosocial outcomes with a patient focused, discharge planning framework;
  • Advocate for families and clients to resolve crises;
  • Make appropriate referrals to community resources to assist consumers in their recovery, including ensure service efficacy; and
  • Accurately monitor, evaluate and record client progress according to reach measurable goals.

To be successful in this position you will need to have:

  • A Bachelor Degree in Social Work and eligibility for membership to the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW);
  • Sound knowledge of social work practice;
  • Knowledge of issues associated with disability, health and wellness and awareness of the impact of these illnesses on our clients and their families;Commitment to advocating for and being sensitive to issues pertaining to an array of clients from varied cultural backgrounds;
  • A knowledge of health, crisis intervention and/or loss and grief recovery focused care; and
  • The ability to manage and appropriately prioritise a clinical caseload.
