YOUR IMPACT

The Accommodation Options for Families Worker is part of the broader Accommodation Options for Families (AOF) team at Launch Housing, which operate from 3 sites at Collingwood, St Kilda & Cheltenham delivering targeted housing focused case management to families and children who are experiencing homelessness.

Specifically, the role assists families to move from inappropriate, unsafe or unaffordable short-term emergency accommodation into private rental, linking families with appropriate local support services and assisting families to positively engage in their communities & children to attend school. In line with the State Government’s Opening Doors framework, the position will work closely with homelessness Entry Points within the Southern region to transition families into housing.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

  • Provide outreach services that assess, monitor and evaluate the housing and support needs of a small case-load of families and children residing temporarily in purchased emergency accommodation.
  • Deliver high quality case-management housing focused support services to families and children living in purchased short term accommodation and/or transitional housing.
  • Encourage the families that are being supported by the AOF program to consider appropriate and realistic long term housing options.
  • Effectively link families and children with appropriate supports, including but not limited to educational, health, social, recreational, training and employment services.
  • Advocate on behalf of families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness to ensure that services are relevant, flexible and accessible.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR (KEY SELECTION CRITERIA)

  • Tertiary qualification in social work, mental health, or another related field
  • Experience in the social welfare sector, working with clients with complex needs and social      policy/client support frameworks
  • Knowledge of the housing/homelessness service system
  • Demonstrated ability to build positive and outcome focused relationships and implements a case management plan which makes appropriate referrals and considers all aspects of the family’s needs
  • Demonstrated cultural sensitivity work practices
  • Demonstrated capacity to work flexibly and have the ability to manage competing demands and the setting of boundaries and limits.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
