About the opportunity:

​​Launch Housing recognises data as a key strategic asset. In 2024 Launch applied for and was granted funding to improve its data capability by the Victorian Department of Treasury and Finance (DTF). The uplift is to improve our programs and services to support early intervention via an improved data capability. Launch is undertaking a major data uplift project.

This includes improvements in all areas of our data practice:

  • Improve data governance
  • ​Define data roles and responsibilities
  • ​Implement a new cloud data warehouse environment
  • ​Implement a new business intelligence platform (PowerBI)
  • ​Implement improved data capture interface for client management database

​The data specialist role will work with internal teams (IT/data) and external integrators to develop and implement the new technical environment as well as embed new data practices. As the internal technical lead for this project you will be the conduit between business and technical stakeholders to ensure the BI environment is setup for success. The data specialist will mentor others who are upskilling in PowerBI dashboard development as well as work with the L&D team on a suitable training program.​

This is a full-time, maximum- term opportunity until March 2026.

What you'll be doing:

  • Design and develop data models to transform raw data into meaningful insights.
  • Create interactive and visually appealing Power BI dashboards and reports that meet business needs.
  • Implement data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes to ensure data quality and accuracy.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to internal team members on Power BI best practices.
  • Collaborate with external integrators to ensure seamless integration of the new BI solution with existing systems.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather and translate business requirements into technical specifications.
  • Technical lead for warehouse implementation alongside Research, Evaluation & Data team database administrator and external third-party systems integrator (SI).
  • Contribute to documentation of new platform and processes – data mapping, process flows, environment architecture.
  • Actively engaging in continuous improvement within the team.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships within the team and Launch Housing.
  • Behaving in accordance with all Launch Housing policies and procedures, including the Code of Conduct.
  • Upholding the principles of the Child Safe Code of Conduct, ensuring that Child Safe Standards are translated into operational practices at all times.
  • Undertaking any other tasks as directed.

What we're looking for (key selection criteria):

  • Proven experience as a Power BI Developer, with a strong portfolio of complex BI projects.
  • Proficiency in SQL and experience with cloud-based data warehousing solutions.
  • Solid understanding of data modelling and visualisation best practices.
  • Experience with Azure services and Azure Data Factory for ETL processes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • The ability to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders including leaders, peers, employees, and service providers.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics, or a related field.
  • Microsoft Power BI certification desirable.
  • Experience in NFP sector highly desirable.
  • Experience with Tableau desirable.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the values of Launch Housing and our mission to end homelessness.
