 About the organisation

The Law Council of Australia (Law Council) is the peak national representative body of the Australian legal profession. Since 1933 the Law Council has represented its Constituent Bodies, which include State and Territory law societies and bar associations, to speak on national issues, and promote the administration of justice, access to justice and general improvement of the law.

About the role

Through its international networks, the International Division seeks to advance the Law Council’s domestic policy agenda, and monitor developments in international law, jurisprudence and legal practice.

The Division works to promote and defend the rule of law and the independence of the judiciary and legal profession, with particular focus on the Asia-Pacific region. It also represents the Australian legal profession internationally, and aims to maximise Australia’s participation in the global legal services market.

As a member of the International Division, the Research Officer, International supports the Division’s Director and Senior Policy Lawyer by assisting in the preparation of written material on a range of legal and international policy issues, research papers and reports.

Appropriate tertiary qualifications in law is required.
