About THE FOUNDATION

The Law and Justice Foundation of New South Wales is an independent statutory body established to improve access to justice for all NSW residents, with a focus on improving outcomes for people experiencing economic and social disadvantage. We contribute to the development of a fair and equitable justice system through high-quality research and evaluation, knowledge dissemination, and evidence-based policy advocacy. We are a small and friendly team that enjoys working collaboratively, while giving individuals the space to develop their own contribution.

THE OPPORTUNITY

We're seeking a dynamic Communications Manager to join our diverse team, contributing to the advancement of access to justice in NSW. This permanent position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by ensuring our evidence-based research reaches the right audiences and influences positive change in the legal and justice system. The Communications Manager works closely with the Foundation’s Director and Research Director. Continuing professional development is strongly supported by the Foundation.

Your impact

In this role, you will:

  • Manage the production and dissemination of research publications, reports, and digital content
  • Translate complex research into accessible information for diverse stakeholders
  • Develop and implement our strategic communications and engagement plans
  • Create compelling visual and written materials using advanced design skills
  • Oversee our website, social media platforms, and analytics
  • Coordinate media relations and assist in the organisation of public events

ABOUT YOU

Our ideal candidate is a strategic communicator who can effectively translate technical research for diverse audiences including policymakers, professional stakeholders, and the wider NSW community. You'll ensure the Foundation is well-regarded by stakeholders, produce professional publications and promotional materials, and drive uptake of our research.

With strong copywriting, editing, and graphic design skills, you will manage our publications, website, social media, and communications while contributing to events. You'll need experience communicating complex information to different audiences, and in developing targeted communication strategies, alongside excellent attention to detail. The ability to work collaboratively, manage projects efficiently under pressure, and quickly grasp issues affecting the Foundation is essential.

Selection Criteria

Essential

  • Strategic communication skills to translate technical research for and effectively reach various audiences across diverse formats and platforms (e.g., reports, social media and infographics)
  • Strong copywriting and editing skills, with exceptional attention to detail
  • Graphic design capabilities for publications, infographics, and digital content (Adobe Creative Suite including InDesign or Microsoft Publisher highly desired)
  • Website management and analytics expertise, including the ability to manage third-party contractors effectively (capability in using WordPress, MailChimp and Google Analytics highly desired)
  • Excellent project management and time management skills

Desirable

  • Knowledge of legal assistance or community services sector

Working arrangements

Permanent appointment following a successful 6-month probation. Hybrid working, with attendance at a Sydney CBD office required on a regular weekly plus as needs basis. Full-time or part-time (minimum 28 hours/week). Flexible working arrangements available. Applicants must have the right to work in Australia. Responsible to: Director, Law and Justice Foundation of NSW.

Salary and benefits

  • Dependent on experience and qualifications, $110k - $130k + Super (FTE)
  • Three bonus days of recognition leave during the Christmas/New Year break
  • Opportunity to salary sacrifice superannuation contributions
