The Centre Against Sexual Assault Central Victoria (CASACV) is a community organisation based in Bendigo that provides counselling, advocacy and support to all children, young people and adults who have experienced sexual violence.
A bicultural worker uses their cultural knowledge, language skills, lived experience and community connections to support people from their community and to work with other organisations. They help make sure community voices are heard, advocate for their needs, help design and run programs, share information, and create a safe and respectful environment.
We are looking for a bicultural worker to play a key role in the Talking Consent with Young People in the Karen Community Project. This project is about creating a culturally safe and respectful program that supports young Karen people (aged 16–24) to learn about affirmative consent and respectful relationships.
As the Bicultural Worker, you will help to ensure the project reflects the Karen community’s culture, values, and needs. You will work closely with the CASACV Project Officer, Karen community members, young people, community leaders, and partner organisations to make the program successful and culturally safe.
Community Connection:
Build strong relationships with young Karen people, families, and community leaders to promote the project and encourage participation
Cultural Expertise:
Provide advice on Karen culture, values, and perspectives to ensure the program is respectful and relevant to the community
Co-Facilitation:
Work with the Project Officer to co-facilitate workshops, activities, and discussions with Karen young people and community members
Stakeholder Engagement:
Support partnerships with community organisations, sporting clubs, schools and leaders to strengthen the project’s impact
Resource Development:
Assist in creating culturally appropriate resources and materials for the program
Feedback and Evaluation:
Gather feedback from the community to help improve the project and ensure it meets its goals
