ABOUT THE ROLE

The Young People Talking Consent Project builds on the success of the CASACV Young People as Agents of Change Peer Educator Model (YPAC) which was funded by the Victorian Government and delivered in the Macedon Ranges Shire between 2022-2024.

The aim of the Young Talking Consent Project (with Karen Young People) is to review, adapt, and expand on the YPAC model and existing associated resources through a co-design process and peer-educator program to address and support the specific needs of Karen young people (aged 16–24) in the Loddon region.

The goal of the Project is to create a culturally sensitive and respectful program focused on understanding the context of sexual violence (prevalence and structural factors), affirmative consent and respectful relationships.

The Project Officer is responsible for developing and implementing the Project, engaging stakeholders, leading co-design workshops, supporting peer educators, facilitating partnerships, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, culturally responsive activities and resources.

ABOUT YOU

With a Bachelor’s degree in social work, community development, education, or a related field (or a minimum of 5 years of equivalent experience in a relevant area), you will be able to demonstrate:

  • Experience in project coordination and implementation, including stakeholder engagement and community-led program development
  • Ability to deliver culturally responsive programs, preferably in partnership with culturally diverse communities
  • Strong understanding of the principles of cultural safety and demonstrated ability to work respectfully with multicultural communities; knowledge and experience with the Karen community is an advantage
  • Experience working collaboratively with bicultural workers or in cross-cultural contexts
  • Awareness of regional challenges faced by refugee and migrant communities, particularly in accessing services and education
  • Understanding of the drivers of sexual violence and primary prevention strategies
  • Knowledge of affirmative consent, respectful relationships, and sexual violence prevention is desirable
  • Experience in co-designing and facilitating workshops, training, or community programs
  • Capacity to support and mentor peer educators and facilitate co-design processes
  • Familiarity with using digital tools for community engagement and resource delivery (e.g., social media, print materials)
