About us

Legal Aid NSW helps people with their legal problems. We can help people with most areas of criminal law, family law and every day civil law legal issues. We give legal advice, help at court and do family dispute resolution. We can do this over the telephone or at one of our 28 offices.

The Respect at Work Legal Service (RAWLS) team provides ‘end to end’ legal help for people experiencing workplace sexual harassment and discrimination, including CLE, advice, minor assistance, legal representation, and facilitated referrals to support services.  Staff in the team will also support and train other Legal Aid NSW staff in discrimination law and contribute to advocacy on systemic issues.

RAWLS staff will be based across NSW to focus services in the following areas:

  • Central Coast/Hunter
  • North Coast/North East NSW
  • Riverina/Western NSW
  • Greater Sydney/Illawarra

About you

You have a good knowledge of, and experience working with, people living with a disability across NSW. You can communicate clearly with a range of people and understand the importance of listening. You are committed to working collaboratively with your team members and service partners.

We may use this recruitment to create a talent pool for similar ongoing or temporary vacancies we have over the next 18 months. 

About the role

We are looking for a committed Community Engagement Officer to join our Respect at Work Legal Service across NSW. The role is temporary full-time up to June 2025.

The Community Engagement Officer is responsible for:

  • developing and managing stakeholder relationships to improve access to justice for clients living with a disability.
  • assisting in the development and delivery of community legal education (CLE) sessions.
  • providing a holistic legal and non-legal response to the complex needs of our clients, together with other RAWLS team members.

The essential requirements for this role 

You must:

  • be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 before you start work with us
  • be willing to do a Criminal Record Check 
  • be willing to do a Working with Children Check
  • hold Australian or NZ citizenship, Australian Permanent Residency (for ongoing vacancies) or a valid visa to work in Australia (for temporary vacancies)
  • have a current Driver Licence
  • be able to travel to regional and remote areas
