Legal Aid NSW helps people with their legal problems. We can help people with most areas criminal law, family law and every day civil law legal issues. We give legal advice, help at court and do family dispute resolution. We can do this over the telephone or at one of our 28 offices.

About the role

The successful candidate will provide criminal law advice and representation to clients of Legal Aid NSW, adhering to its policies and guidelines. This role supports the mission of delivering high-quality legal services and assisting clients in resolving their legal problems. 

You will be passionate about providing legal services to disadvantaged people in regional, rural, and criminal justice system contexts.

We may use this recruitment to create a NSW Regional talent pool for similar ongoing or temporary vacancies we have over the next 18 months for regional NSW.

The Moree office of Legal Aid NSW is in Moree Plains Shire in northern New South Wales. It is located on the banks of the Mehi River in the heart of NSW's northern wheatbelt and recognised nationally as Australia's Artesian Spa Capital. Ideally nestled on the New South Wales and Queensland border, Moree is a town rich in culture, heritage, agriculture and natural assets. Moree can also be reached from Sydney by daily train and air services.

The essential requirements for this role

You must:

  • be admitted or be eligible for admission as a legal practitioner in NSW
  • be able to provide a current NSW Practising Certificate before you start
  • be willing to undertake a Criminal Record Check and Working with Children Check
  • hold Australian or NZ citizenship, Australian Permanent Residency (for ongoing vacancies) or a valid visa to work in Australia (for temporary vacancies)
  • hold a current driver’s licence
  • be able to travel for work away from home
