Legal Aid NSW helps people with their legal problems. We can help people with most areas criminal law, family law and every day civil law legal issues. We give legal advice, help at court and do family dispute resolution. We can do this over the telephone or at one of our 28 offices.

The Moree office of Legal Aid NSW is in Moree Plains Shire in northern New South Wales. It is located on the banks of the Mehi River in the heart of NSW's northern wheatbelt and recognised nationally as Australia's Artesian Spa Capital. Ideally nestled on the New South Wales and Queensland border, Moree is a town rich in culture, heritage, agriculture and natural assets. Moree can also be reached from Sydney by daily train and air services.

About the role

Step into this dynamic leadership role, establishing and overseeing the daily operations of our new Moree Office. Your role will involve managing and guiding the team to deliver high-quality legal services, meeting our client needs with efficiency and effectiveness and working with our legal assistance partners in the region to improve access to justice.

Additionally, you will supervise and mentor both legal and non-legal staff, fostering their growth and ensuring they contribute to our shared goals. You’ll ensure optimal use of resources and the delivery of bespoke services that truly make a difference for our clients and the community.

About you

You are a highly experienced civil, family, or criminal lawyer, committed to delivering high-quality, culturally appropriate legal services to legally aided clients. You will have experience managing teams of legal and non-legal staff. You are a compassionate, principled leader who leads by example, promoting cultural safety practices in the office for both staff and clients. You are passionate about serving the Moree community and surrounding areas.

We may use this recruitment to create a talent pool for similar ongoing or temporary vacancies we have over the next 18 months.

The essential requirements for this role

You must:

  • be admitted or be eligible for admission as a legal practitioner in NSW
  • be able to provide a current NSW Practising Certificate before you start work with us
  • be willing to do a Criminal Record Check and Working with Children Check
  • hold Australian or NZ citizenship, Australian Permanent Residency (for ongoing vacancies) or a valid visa to work in Australia (for temporary vacancies)
  • hold a valid NSW Drivers Licence
