VU Online Master of Mental Health (Nursing) and CAMH
Victoria University (VU) Online offers two programs, Master of Mental Health (Nursing), and Master of Child and Adolescent Mental Health. These accelerated degrees are offered in VU’s revolutionary postgraduate block model, where students take 1 unit at a time in 8-week blocks across 6 study periods a year.
The Opportunity
You will be an Independent Contractor undertaking the role of an Online Facilitator, managed and trained by LINC Education (www.linceducation.com), providing a high level of 1:1 student support to postgraduate nursing students. This support includes engaging in discussions about unit content, moderating online discussion forums, marking assessments, and providing feedback to students. The work requires a deep knowledge of the nursing field and best practices in online education delivery.

Roles & Responsibilities
Major responsibilities include:
- Providing proactive and prompt 1:1 academic support to postgraduate online students via phone, text and email.
- Moderating discussion board forums on VU’s LMS.
- Attending/viewing nine-unit online class sessions and attending weekly meetings (30 minutes) with the Online Coordinator over the 8 weeks.
- Attending three assessment moderation and calibration meetings.
- Marking assessments and providing feedback as per set rubrics within required timelines.
- Successfully undertaking Online Facilitator training (paid) and regular coaching to improve student support practices.
Remuneration
Educators are contracted as Independent Contractors for one unit at a time during each 8-week study period. Compensation is based on the number of students you support and your performance.
- As a new facilitator, for a standard 25 student allocation, the base compensation is $6800 with a success fee of up to 20% (total compensation for a top performer of $8200). You will be compensated for a minimum load of 15 students ($4850 base compensation, with up to 20% success fee).
- You will have the flexibility of working from a location of your convenience.
- You will be responsible for incurring any expenses required to provide the services in an online mode such as laptop, internet, telecom connectivity.
- You will receive specialised training for the role.
Time Commitment
- Since most online students are working professionals and study in non-office hours, online facilitators must have the flexibility to support students after 5 pm on weekdays (same day response to student emails/texts) and over weekends.
- The unit runs over 8-weeks (1-week orientation, 6 teaching weeks and 1 grading week) preceded by 1 week for training related activities.
- It is anticipated that you will be required to spend approximately 125-130 hours over this period assuming a standard allocation of 25 students.
Selection Criteria
- Registered Nurse or Midwife (AHPRA registration) or Registered Mental Health Practicing Nurse and knowledge of unit content and knowledge of unit content.
- PhD and/or Master Degree in Nursing or relevant field (i.e. health-related) plus 5 years' relevant teaching, research and/or professional experience at the PG level in the last 10 years.
- Full working rights to work within Australia.
- An Australian Business Number or ABN as a sole trader, or of the entity that will contract with LINC.
Desirable
- Past experience of teaching online at the PG-level with impressive student evaluation of teaching reports.
- Ability to quickly learn and use technology platforms for interacting with students online.
