The Little Sisters of the Poor - St Joseph's Home have an opportunity available for an experienced Maintenance worker within our aged care facility in Northcote.

About the role
We are seeking an experienced Maintenance worker, ideally with some Trade and/or Maintenance experience, to join the team in our Northcote Home to play an integral role in maintaining and improving the property and aiding in providing a home-like environment for our aged care residents.
The role will be reporting to the home’s CEO / Mother Superior, as well as our Maintenance Officer, and will be responsible for performing preventative maintenance and the provision of basic maintenance services upon request, and the referral to the maintenance officer of any works requiring qualified trade or specialist expertise.
This role will see you frequently interacting with residents, as you attend to their rooms on a regular basis to perform preventative maintenance checks and reactive maintenance works. We are in the process of implementing a computerised maintenance management system, and this role will involve checking the system for work requests and recording into the system work completed. Full training on use of the system will be provided.
Responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to the following.
- Carrying out day-to-day and in house maintenance within residents’ rooms of the home, communal areas, home equipment and the homes surrounding grounds.
- Positive resident satisfaction with regard to maintenance issues.
- Evidence of effective teamwork; helping other members of the team.
- Scheduled maintenance is carried out according to the preventative/corrective maintenance program and to timelines.
- All urgent maintenance requests are responded to and closed out within specified /reasonable timelines.
- Complies with legal responsibilities including policies and procedures at all times.
- Meets outcomes of aged care standards as relevant to the position - especially standards 4.4; living environment - 1.7; inventory and equipment - 4.5 Occupational Health and Safety - 4.6 Fire, security and other emergencies.
- Timely management of hazards in the workplace where due to maintenance.
- Minimise accidents/incidents/injuries in the workplace due to maintenance.
- All required documentation is completed accurately and to timelines.
- Contributes to continuous improvement.
- Contributes to a clean, safe, and supportive environment for residents, family, visitors and other staff.
- Always works and operates equipment in a safe manner.
- All mandatory and other relevant staff development programs are attended.
- Able to demonstrate competency in fire and emergency procedures.
- Able to demonstrate competency in manual handling.

Skills and experience
Successful Candidates will have some or all of the following skills.
- Certificate/experience in a relevant trade from the building industry (Highly desirable)
- Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (Desirable)
- Test & Tag Experience/Training (Desirable)
- Demonstrated experience and ability to provide maintenance services in a residential aged care or similar building environment.
- Demonstrated understanding of certification and aged care standards as this relates to the maintenance role (e.g. standard 4.4, living environment)
- Demonstrated positive attitude towards older people / understanding of the needs of older people for a safe and homelike environment.
- Demonstrated understanding and commitment to safety including awareness of responsibilities under the OH&S Act.
- Ability to manage own workload to achieve maintenance timelines.
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning and participation in continuous improvement activities for the provision of high-quality accredited services to residents.

This role is being offered as a Part Time opportunity (minimum 3 days per week)
