For over 20 years, Lived Experience Australia has been advocating on behalf of people with a lived experience of mental ill-health, and their carers, families and kin. We are a national systemic advocacy, research, and capacity building organisation and a peak representative organisation for private sector consumers and carers.

Lived Experience Australia is an informed, authentic, lived experience organisation that is trusted by consumers and carers to understand and advocate for their unique needs and perspectives. All board members and staff each have their own lived experience of mental ill-health, as either a consumer, carer, or both.

Lived Experience Australia is a Company limited by guarantee and overseen by a Board of Directors. These Director positions are voluntary and provide an opportunity to drive positive change in mental health reform.

What the voluntary Board Director position involves:

• Attending online Board meetings held quarterly, plus additional ad hoc meetings as required
• Possible membership of Board committees such as the Finance and Risk Management Committee
• Supporting the governance, strategic direction, financial sustainability, and ongoing reputation of Lived Experience Australia as a peak mental health advocacy organisation

We are ideally seeking individuals with:

• Lived experience of mental ill-health (consumer) or supporting someone with mental ill-health (carer, family member, kin)
• Experience as a Board Director, particularly within the non-profit or charity sector (desirable)
• Understanding of the mental health sector
• Understanding of the private mental health sector specifically (GPs, psychiatrist, psychologists, private psychiatric hospitals, etc) (desirable)
• Knowledge of Government health/mental health policy (desirable)

Commercial backgrounds from legal, finance, corporate communications, research projects, grant applications and fundraising would be appreciated.
