Lake Mac City Council have permanent and temporary opportunities for full time and part time positions for qualified and experienced Senior Lifeguards to join our Swim Centre teams. Our Senior Pool Lifeguards oversee the provision of safety and management of emergency situations while supervising water safety functions across our water bodies in order to anticipate, identify and respond quickly to all emergencies. Key focus areas of the role include mentoring and supervising junior staff, providing water safety advice to Swim Centre patrons, concentrated observations of the primary areas, first response to medical emergencies, first aid and rescues with the use of appropriate equipment, assistance with facilities maintenance, informing the public to maintain a high safety standard, compliance with standard operating procedures and displaying appropriate signage to minimise risk to Swim Centre patrons.

Multiple temporary positions are available for contracts until April 2025. Shifts are based on a 7-day roster with a span of hours from 4:30am to 9:00pm. Shifts are offered across the network of Swim Centers - located at Swansea, West Wallsend, Charlestown and Speers Point. We are seeking candidates who are willing and able to travel to our Swim Centre locations as required.

As part of the interview and selection process, candidates will be required to undertake a practical skill and fitness assessment which may assess swimming ability, conditions assessment, resuscitation technique, fitness level and endurance.

We are looking for enthusiastic and self-motivated individuals who have a love for people, water safety, fitness and working with the community. Our ideal candidates are engaging, professional and personable with the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of people.

With a high level of awareness and excellent customer service skills, you will pride yourself on providing proactive water surveillance across our Swim Centres to ensure high standards of safety, cleanliness and behaviour are maintained to prevent potential issues from arising and for patrons to enjoy a fun and safe swimming environment.

You will bring:

  • Certificate III (SIS30122) in Sport, Aquatics and Recreation or equivalent experience and qualifications, in a relevant discipline such as: Apply First Aid; Administer oxygen in an emergency situation; Operate automated external defibrillator; Provision of emergency care for suspected spinal injury
  • Demonstrated practical experience in all aspects of swimming centre operations
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a willingness to embrace change
  • Satisfactory completion of all fitness and skill requirements outlined in Department Local Government – Practice Note 15
  • Current Working with Children certification for employee’s
