Lock the Gate Alliance Limited

About Lock the Gate

Lock the Gate Alliance (lockthegate.org.au) is a national grassroots organisation made up of more than 240,000 supporters and around 140 local groups who are concerned about risky coal mining, coal seam gas and fracking.

These groups are located in all parts of Australia and include farmers, First Nations Peoples, conservationists and urban residents.

Our vision is of healthy, empowered communities which have fair, democratic processes available to them to protect their land and water and deliver sustainable solutions to food and energy needs.

The mission of Lock the Gate is to protect Australia’s natural, cultural and agricultural resources from inappropriate mining and to educate and empower all Australians to demand sustainable solutions to food and energy production.

The Role

LNG exports from Queensland have led to a tripling of gas production in eastern Australia and sent domestic prices sky-rocketing, placing enormous pressure on Australian manufacturing.

The Clean Industry Coordinator will work with allies to identify solutions that will support industry in Australia to shift away from expensive gas and promote local procurement.

It will be at the forefront of identifying incentives for industrial gas users to electrify, and to mobilise a broader constituency and highlight positive stories about benefits and opportunities in doing so.

It is a unique opportunity to be part of a positive program to support restructuring the east coast economy towards cheaper renewable alternatives in sectors that have ready options available.

The role will highlight the untold story of gas demand reduction on the East Coast - that domestic users have reduced demand by approximately 30% over the last decade, but that extra gas has just been siphoned offshore as uncontracted gas.

It will help to identify and pursue policies to speed the shift both nationally and in NSW and will involve engagement and advocacy with key decision makers and stakeholders.

This role sits within Lock the Gate’s Legal and Research Team and is a part time role, ideally 4 days per week. You will be comfortable working from home and based in Australia. We are open to where in Australia the role will be performed from.
