Role Overview

With our people now numbering 49, we are looking to appoint an HR specialist to set up and deliver best practice people services and systems for our managers and staff. This is a rare opportunity for an HR professional to be integral in developing and implementing effective HR processes, building comprehensive training plans, and overseeing the introduction of a new HR software system. The role would be part of the highly effective management team, reporting to the Executive Officer and will initially be part-time role (3 to 4 days per week).

Role Scope

The successful candidate will need to be a true generalist, able to bring expertise and currency to broad HR operations, with the initial focus on recruitment and onboarding, L&D, succession planning, communication initiatives, HR analytics and reporting. The role is both strategic and operational, advisory and hands-on, aimed at ensuring we recruit, grow, develop, support and retain motivated satisfied people and provide guidance and support to management.

The initial emphasis will be on people development and staff wellbeing. A high quality EAP is in place and Payroll is well managed by a Financial specialist within the group. The role’s initial focus will be on

  • Process Development: Design and implement HR policies and procedures to enhance efficiency, consistency, and compliance within the organisation.
  • Training & Development: Establish training and development plans for staff at all levels, fostering ongoing learning and skill-building to support individual and organisational growth.
  • HR Systems Implementation: Lead the selection and roll-out of an HR software platform, manage training for staff to ensure a smooth transition and effective usage.
  • Employee Relations: Serve as a trusted advisor for our people, providing guidance on workplace matters, performance management, and professional development.
  • Compliance & Documentation: Ensure all HR practices comply with relevant employment laws and regulations; maintain accurate employee files and documentation.
  • Performance Management: Develop and implement a structured performance management system that includes regular feedback, goal setting, and progress tracking.

Pre-requisites

Expertise

  • Degree qualified in relevant discipline such as Business, HR, Psychology, Education.
  • At least 5 years as an HR generalist at a senior level managing People and Performance function.
  • Experience in process design and HR system implementation.
  • Professional Development activity to ensure currency with legislative requirements covering Employment law, reporting, superannuation.
  • Ideal, though not mandatory, some experience within the nonprofit or social sector.

Competence which needs to have been demonstrated

  • Communication and relationship building effectiveness internally and with relevant external groups
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in use of HR software (experience with selection and implementation is an advantage) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • People development and succession planning.
  • A track record of success in building a positive and dynamic workplace with high staff satisfaction and retention levels
  • Organisational & Reporting Skills: a track record of managing multiple priorities, meeting deadlines, implementing structured processes and producing timely meaningful reports
  • Flexibility and proactivity with the ability to find creative solutions to HR challenges.
