The Therapeutic Practitioner works within the Clinical Services Team and is responsible for guiding and supporting carer and staff interactions with children and young people, conducting assessments, developing therapeutic treatment plans and leading reflective practice to support carers and staff in their care for and work with the children in the Intensive Therapeutic Care (ITC) programs.
Reporting to the Principal Practitioner, this full-time maternity leave position (10 months) will be based in South Melbourne.
The position will provide pro-active therapeutic care and have a strong focus on recovery from trauma providing an alternative to long term residential care with a broader range of placement options for children and young people to achieve positive outcomes in education, mental and physical health including permanency in their lives.
Working closely with the Managers, program staff and other service partners in the management of complex cases and practice quality issues. This will include specialist expertise and assistance, case consultancy, review and promote reflective and evidence-based practice.
Successful applicants must have appropriate tertiary qualification in Psychology, Social Work or a related discipline and a minimum of three years’ experience, in psychology, social work, therapy or Out-of-Home-Care. Experience working with Aboriginal children, families and communities is preferred and an understanding of the challenges experienced in the Child Protection and Out of Home Care systems by Aboriginal children and families is essential. Current registration as a psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia or Master’s level qualifications is valued.
