About the Role

As our Principal Resilience Officer, you will be responsible in leading complex, high-profile projects that build the resilience of the Maitland Local Government area to assist our community and city to plan for and adapt in the event of natural hazards and changing climate conditions.

The role will involve undertaking research and developing strategies, policies and plans relating to complex natural hazard management and resilience matters, with a particular focus on floodplain management, urban heat and climate change adaption.

A key component of your role will be to engage and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders including designers, engineers, planners, environmental officers, asset managers, communications and engagement staff and emergency response agencies. You will also coordinate and support the effective functioning of the Maitland Floodplain Risk Management Committee.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have a degree in environmental engineering or environmental science, environmental sustainability (or related discipline) and have demonstrated contemporary industry knowledge and demonstrated professional experience in climate change adaptation, resilience planning and floodplain management.

You will have demonstrated high level problem solving and analytical skills with a proven ability to develop business cases and cost benefit analyses for environmental sustainability projects and programs. You will also possess high level interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to liaise with individuals across complex government agencies and the ability to work productively in a team environment.

Post graduate qualifications specialising in disaster resilience, socio-ecological resilience and demonstrated experience in the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction would be highly regarded.

Benefits

This permanent full-time position and has a salary range of $111,542 up to $123,811 per year based on demonstrated competencies + 11% p.a. super.
