Make-A-Wish is one of Australia’s most trusted charities and part of the largest wish-granting organisations in the world.  We partner with children with life threatening conditions, their families and medical teams to grant wishes as unique as the children who imagine them.  At Make-A-Wish, our mission is to grant the wish of every eligible child as we believe these wishes complement treatment, build resilience and bring hope to these children and their families when they need it most. 

About the Role 

In this role, your primary responsibility will be to secure, manage and build relationships with trusts, foundations and other grant-making bodies.

The role is also responsible for developing and implementing strategies that align with Make-A-Wish Australia’s mission, writing compelling grant proposals and leveraging the impact information available to you. You will be responsible for coordinating a grant calendar, keeping this up to date, as well as utilising grant prospect methodology to identify new prospects and add to the pipeline to grow revenue.

Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of the grant calendar, reviewing and optimising to ensure opportunities are identified in time.
  • Support the development, implementation and evaluation of the Philanthropy strategy, alongside our overall Fundraising plans, to grow revenue sustainably through building meaningful relationships with Trusts and Foundations, including PAFs.
  • Utilise grant prospect methodology to identify opportunities with existing T&Fs, as well as uncovering new prospects, building a pipeline of supporters to grow revenue
  • Identify specific areas of interest for Trusts and Foundations and leverage impact information to develop proposals to unlock funding, presenting these in a compelling way.
  • Represent Make-A-Wish Australia at designated events relating to philanthropy as required.
  • Ensure all Trusts, Foundations and grant-making bodies financial commitments are adhered to and that payments are followed up as required.
  • Support sustainable relationships that result in net financial and/or other benefits, including developing and submitting proposals, plus supporting the renegotiating of agreements where required.
  • Work with the broader Fundraising team to improve and evolve the current cultivation and stewardship policies and processes including the management of the pipeline.

About you

  • Awareness and understanding of best practice fundraising, recent trends and guidance in relation to Trusts & Foundations.
  • Demonstrated experience in fundraising with proven experience in philanthropy and trust and funds management.
  • High level verbal and written communication skills
  • Exemplary interpersonal skills including effective listening, empathy, discretion, diplomacy and ability to build and sustain relationships.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills with proven ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Natural collaborator
  • Comfortable with change and ambiguity
  • High levels of attention to detail and strong administrative skills
  • Positive can-do attitude with strong work ethic and ability to operate well in a team environment.
