Mala’la Health Service is a respected & accredited Aboriginal Corporation providing services to the seaside community of Maningrida (520 km east of Darwin), with a population of approximately 3,000 people. These services include Primary Health Care, Aged Care & Community Services, Family & Community Wellness Services and Drug & Alcohol Services.
Mala’la Health Service provides Primary Health Care services to Maningrida and surrounding homelands under a Community Control model.
The primary purpose of the Rural Medical Practitioner role is to provide primary medical services to the Maningrida community and surrounding outstations, by utilising your rural and remote experience and working collaboratively with other health professionals, to deliver excellent health care to patients.
Maningrida is one of the largest remote towns in the Northern Territory, with a population of around 3,000 residents.
A permanent settlement was established in the late 1940s, originally as a trading post with Aboriginals in the area. Maningrida is the major service centre for the region with a school, health clinic, multiple food outlets, two supermarkets, service station, arts centre, creche and a tarmac airport with commercial flights operating daily to Darwin.
The name Maningrida is an Anglicised version of the Kunibídji name Manayingkarírra, which comes from the phrase Manedjangkarirra, meaning “the place where the Dreaming changed shape.”
