SUMMARY

The Market Forces gas campaigner will work to protect the environment by preventing the expansion of the polluting gas sector.

Location: Melbourne CBD Office preferred. Other Australian locations will be considered for the right candidate.

Salary: $99,750 p.a. plus superannuation

Term: 12-months contract, with a view to a permanent position pending funding

Position reports to: Australia Campaigns Manager

ABOUT MARKET FORCES

Market Forces campaigns to protect the environment by shifting finance away from dirty fossil fuels - coal, oil and gas - that are driving climate change. We focus on companies, banks, superannuation funds and other investors that finance environmentally risky and damaging activities. Shifting investment to a clean energy revolution is needed to secure a stable climate in the long term.

POSITION SUMMARY

This role is part of our Australian Fossil Fuels Campaign team working to shift finance away from fossil fuel projects that pose the biggest threats to the environment and climate.

A campaigner is someone who does what is needed to deliver real, measurable change in the world.

The Market Forces gas campaigner executes advocacy campaigns to protect the environment by preventing the expansion of the polluting gas sector. This involves engaging and influencing

  • corporate and financial decision-makers
  • community members
  • allied organisations
  • media.

ABOUT YOU

You are a strategic and creative individual who wants to deliver meaningful, lasting changes to benefit the environment. You have experience in developing impactful campaigns. You are a great person to be around, whether it’s as a direct colleague, leader of a movement, or collaborator in a coalition. You’re able to balance a deep determination for getting results with a calm resilience to changing circumstances and moments of pressure.

Most of all, you want to solve the climate crisis and can prove you know how to win campaigns.

DUTIES

  • Develop and deliver strategies and tactics to prevent the expansion of the polluting gas sector, ensuring effective coordination with other Market Forces campaigns and team members.
  • Write and produce Market Forces communications materials to engage and influence target audiences.
  • Design and organise public activities and events to bring people power to bear on gas companies and their financiers as part of Market Forces campaigns.
  • Reach out and network with community groups and institutions to strengthen and support Market Forces’ campaigns.
  • Mobilise volunteers and utilise volunteer contributions in campaigning as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with movement allies to get the wins needed.
  • Publicly represent Market Forces as required.
