Maroondah City Council is seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic person to complement the existing Youth and Children's Services Team.

The Kindergarten Outreach Officer will be responsible for actively engaging and directly working with vulnerable and culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) children and their families to maximise attendance at kindergarten and support their successful transition to school.

There will be a focus on building strong relationships with local refugee, asylum seeker and CALD community groups, organisations and service providers to support inclusion and successful transition to kindergarten and school, with a key focus on Myanmar/Burmese communities. The role will also be responsible for identifying and responding to barriers to kindergarten participation by providing innovative community engagement, promotion, support and active outreach to families.

The successful applicant will be required to progress the following key deliverables for CALD families across the municipality:

  • Maximising attendance at kindergarten by CALD children
  • Increased kindergarten enrolments for three- and four-year-old CALD children in 2022 and 2023.
  • Increased engagement by CALD families in other early childhood supports available and accessible in their local area for example playgroups and Maternal Child Health
  • Providing successful transition support for children starting school in 2023
  • Supporting the dissemination of translated information for early childhood workers and families to encourage COVIDSafe behaviours.

Applicants must have excellent relationship building skills, a strong knowledge of cultural diversity, beliefs, values and needs of a culturally and linguistically diverse community as well as an understanding of Myanmar/Burmese Communities.

Relevant tertiary qualifications and a proven ability to engage with the community are essential.
