Trainer / Consultant - Alice Springs

Matrix on Board Consulting and Training

Matrix On Board Consulting and Training is a boutique, Territory-based consultancy providing consulting, training and evaluation services to support the nonprofit sector and our clients to increase their capacity to achieve their mission.

We partner with nonprofit organisations across Australia, with particular expertise in remote locations and organisations working with indigenous communities.

We are looking for a Trainer / Consultant to be based in our Alice Springs office, 4 days per week on a 12-month fixed term contract (renewable).

Is this your ideal next job?

At Matrix, you’ll be working on diverse, meaningful projects that make real, sustainable change and impact positively on people's lives and livelihoods. You’ll work with clients across the nonprofit sector, from government to small social enterprises, supporting them to build their capabilities and deliver on their mission.

You’ll deliver non-accredited training to established clients, including cross-cultural training for people in remote communities in business, computer and community service activities, which will take you to remote Aboriginal communities roughly a week every 6-8 weeks. You’ll also deliver a ‘train the trainer’ program in financial literacy several times a year in various Australian locations, and develop and deliver other training activities in accordance with client needs.

You’ll also work independently and as part of a team on consulting projects, in governance, strategic and business planning in the nonprofit context; as well as research, administrative and other tasks associated with consulting projects.

When not travelling, you will work from and administer Matrix’s Alice Springs office, providing a local presence and point of contact, co-ordinating client requests and any administrative needs for the office. You’ll report to the General Manager, Consulting who is based in our Darwin office - and as such, the ability for self-directed, independent work is essential.

There’s plenty of collegiate support and well developed, proven processes and methodologies; and you’ll be joining a company with a strong well-established reputation.

About You:

We’re seeking a consultant with strong training capabilities, including the ability to develop and deliver training to meet specific client needs, in a cross-cultural context and both face to face and online. Ideally you’ll also have experience at management level or consulting to the nonprofit sector.

You’ll have the ability to communicate sensitively and build relationships with Indigenous Australians and students from CALD backgrounds; and the flexibility and capabilities to independently undertake remote travel.

A good understanding of the Northern Territory / Central Australian context will serve you well in this role, and as we’re looking for ‘on the ground’ presence at our head office, you’ll either be currently living in Alice Springs or prepared to relocate independently.

For remote area travel, a manual driver’s licence is essential and 4WD experience is strongly preferred. Knowledge of local Indigenous languages would be beneficial.

The successful applicant will be required to undertake a National Criminal History Record Check (NCHRC) and must hold or obtain valid Working with Children cards in WA, NT and other states as required. Due to our work taking us to communities with vulnerable populations and our obligations under government funding contracts, it will be a requirement that the successful applicant is fully vaccinated against Covid 19 including booster shots.

About the benefits:

In this role, no two days will be the same. You’ll deliver a range of training and nonprofit sector projects, working in the office, remotely from home and in the field, often in remote community locations; as part of a project team and as a solo consultant. There will be lots of scope to learn and grow as well as using your existing capabilities.

Salary will be pro-rata and in the range of $85-$90k; plus super and benefits including 6 weeks annual leave pro rata per annum; and Matrix will provide a laptop for work purposes. Generally, this role will be 4 days a week, with flexibility to meet client needs and increased hours when required.
