• Location: Flexible, but within driving distance of the McPherson Electorate. There will be a campaign office online from the third week of January

Responsibilities:

The Media Coordinator is responsible for developing (in consultation with the Campaign Manager, Campaign core team and the Candidate) an election-winning media strategy and effectively implementing it.

This will involve:

• Creating and implementing a media strategy aligned with the candidate’s campaign goals and identifying key messages and themes to communicate to the public
• Writing and distribute press releases, official statements and media alerts, and ensuring timely responses to news developments
• Organising press conferences and interviews and preparing briefing notes and talking points for the candidate
• Building and maintaining relationships with journalists, editors and media outlets and acting as the primary contact for media enquiries and requests
• Drafting speeches, public addresses and talking points for the candidate and ensuring consistency in tone, style and alignment with campaign values
• Handling public relations crises swiftly and effectively and developing strategies to counter negative media coverage or misinformation
• Monitoring the candidate’s public image and sentiment in the media and addressing and rectifying any issues affecting the candidate’s reputation
• Ensuring positive media coverage of campaign events, rallies and appearances and coordinating, in consultation with the Events Team, logistics for media personnel at campaign events
• Tracking and analysing media coverage of the candidate and opponents and using insights to adjust campaign messaging and strategy
• Providing insights on media coverage related to political opponents
• Offering guidance on media interviews and public appearances

The Person:

We are looking for an experienced media coordinator who can hit the ground running. Working on a grassroots campaign is exciting and exacting – the Media Coordinator will need to be savvy, resilient, organised, a great communicator, team player and writer. They will need to be able to spend time with the Candidate and the Campaign Team in the electorate of McPherson on the Gold Coast.
