The MSH First Nations Health Directorate is responsible for providing support, guidance and feedback on improvement strategies relating to Department of Health - First Nations Health Equity Strategies: Co-development and Co-implementation to Metro South Hospital and Health Service; Queensland Health Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Capability Framework 2010-2033; and Metro South Health - Strategic Plan 2021-2025 and Integrated Planning Framework 2022-2025; and the Metro South Health - First Nations Health Equity Strategy 2022-2025.

The Clinical Nurse (CN) role provides advanced clinical and problem-solving skills, expert planning, and coordination skills in the clinical management of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, within the specialty area of Child Health, ensuring quality standards are met.

This role works autonomously within the healthcare team structure and is pivotal in the planning, managing, and delivering of Child Health specialist nursing care. The CN provides clinical leadership for professional and clinical practice, education, and research. The role supports in management activities including portfolio responsibilities.

The Clinical Nurse – Child Health Primary Health Care is a Nurse Grade 6 (Band 1) classification with a salary range of $66.97 to $71.71 per hour (Casual), $54.45 to $58.30 per hour (Temporary) and $107,960 to $ 115,604 per annum (Full time).

About the Organisation

The Southern Queensland Centre of Excellence (SQCoE) for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care forms part of the Directorate and is based at Inala providing the following services: -

  • Inala Indigenous Health Service: provides GP, nursing and allied health clinical services; Specialists clinics; and Mums and Bubs program.
  • Integrated Mental Health and Substance Use Services: provides culturally appropriate service for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, supporting and enhancing patient centred care. The aim of the service includes reduction in hospital admission rates; reduction of mental health distress and increased support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients to navigate community resources to address social determinants of health. The service model incorporates outreach either in the client’s home or elsewhere as identified by the client.
  • The SQCoE works closely with Elders and community representatives and undertakes research projects with the aim to improve health outcomes for First Nations Peoples.
