position summary

As the Senior Public Affairs Advisor, you will work closely with the Senior Policy Advisor and Executive Director to execute MHV’s policy and advocacy priorities. This role is responsible for the development and implementation of proactive media engagement and advocacy activities to promote the system reform required following the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System. It will also support government relations and engagement with cross-sectoral stakeholders and contribute to research and policy development.

key selection criteria

• Demonstrated experience working in a public affairs role including areas of policy development, media and strategic communications, and public campaigns.
• A solid understanding of the Victorian mental health landscape or a similar health, community or social services sector.
• Demonstrated experience in crafting media material and working directly with the media and other stakeholders to deliver on organisational communications priorities.
• Highly developed verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively to a range of diverse audiences and to produce high quality submissions, reports and position papers.
• Demonstrated experience negotiating with government and/or other stakeholders to advance organisational priorities, including an ability to think quickly under pressure and influence others.
• Demonstrated ability to build effective networks among disparate stakeholders to realise the benefits of collaboration.
