Job Description

BDVS is the specialist domestic violence service for the Brisbane metropolitan region. BDVS is funded by the Department of Justice and Attorney General to provide free and confidential services to adults and children who have been impacted by domestic and family violence.

BDVS has a focus on achieving safety and stability for the individuals and families that we support. Working from contemporary evidence based best practice models, BDVS provides an array of services including crisis and case management, outreach, groups, safety planning, court support, information and referral, programs for men who perpetrate DFV, and psycho-social education on the dynamics of domestic and family violence.

As a Domestic and Family Violence Specialist – Senior Practitioner, you will be an integral part of the BDVS First Response to women and people impacted by domestic and family violence, be responsible for undertaking risk assessments and conducting intake’s of incoming referrals, both from women and other services. Work with the Team Leader to manage and triage incoming referrals and allocate referrals & actions to the team.

This is a permanent full time role with conditions and salary at Level 5 of the SCHADS Award.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Extensive experience working with people in crisis, conducting risk assessments, and developing safety plans.
  • Knowledge of current theory and practice in domestic and family violence, using a trauma-informed approach.
  • Ability to work with government and non-government agencies in case coordination, with knowledge of relevant legislation.
  • Culturally sensitive practice with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and culturally diverse backgrounds.
  • Knowledge or ability to learn cross-disciplinary responses to domestic and family violence.
  • Commitment to child and vulnerable adult safeguarding principles.
  • Proficiency in IT systems, including case management and data collection.
  • Positive attitude, flexibility, and proactive teamwork, with a commitment to cultural diversity, equity, and WHS principles.
