Micah Projects provides a range of support and advocacy services to individuals and families.

The Children and Young People team is funded by the Department of Justice and Attorney General to provide free and confidential services to adults and children who have been impacted by domestic and family violence. CYP has a focus on achieving safety and healing for safe parents and children 0-17 years.

As the DFV Specialist Early Childhood Advocate, you will work to support protective safe parents and children aged 0-8 impacted by domestic and family violence. Your role will focus on helping them live free from violence and addressing their emotional and practical needs.

This is a permanent full-time employment opportunity with conditions and salary at Level 5 of the SCHADS Award.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Promote a culture of respect, safety, and trauma-informed approaches.
  • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments and safety planning.
  • Provide individual support, case management, advocacy, outreach, and needs assessments.
  • Plan and facilitate group programs for safe parents and their children aged 0-8.
  • Coordinate a team-based response for children to access necessary services.
  • Enhance early childhood networks with a DFV focus.
  • Maintain high-quality case notes and support plans.
  • Provide systemic advocacy to enhance victim safety and perpetrator accountability.
  • Empower participants to foster independence and access community resources.
  • Adhere to principles of cultural sensitivity and maintain service records.

Essential Criteria

  • Relevant experience and/or qualifications in social work, psychology, early childhood education, counselling, or similar.
  • Experience working with children, young people, and adults who have experienced trauma.
  • Ability to conduct risk assessments and develop safety plans.
  • Knowledge of domestic and family violence theory and practice, including trauma-informed approaches.
  • Understanding of the impacts of trauma and DFV on early childhood, parenting, and attachment.
  • Ability to provide psychoeducational interventions and group facilitation.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations.
  • Experience working with government and non-government agencies.
  • Commitment to cultural diversity and safeguarding principles.
  • Proficiency in IT systems, including case management and Microsoft Office.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience developing and facilitating group interventions.
  • Completed Safe and Together CORE Training.
  • Training in dyadic interventions with safe parents and children impacted by complex trauma.
