The Family Pathways Program is a service providing holistic support to families that aims to reduce a young males use of adolescent-to-parent violence towards their female protective caregiver in the home. The team focus on engaging with families through individual one-on-one sessions with the protective caregiver and the young person separately in order to build a strong foundation of trust and rapport with the families and also provide a weekly group support program.

As a Domestic and Family Violence Specialist Male Youth Advocate you will work as part of the Families Pathways Program to support young people and protective caregivers impacted by domestic and family violence to increase safety in the home and reduce the young person’s use of adolescent-to-parent violence.

This is a permanent full time employment opportunity with conditions and salary at Level 5 of the SCHADS Award.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct risk assessments and safety planning to enhance family safety and reduce violence.
  • Provide trauma-informed, adolescent-focused interventions, including therapy, group facilitation, and case management.
  • Support protective caregivers in addressing emotional and practical needs arising from their child's experiences.
  • Facilitate integrated service responses and referrals to specialist services.
  • Maintain high-quality case documentation, systemic advocacy, and culturally sensitive practices.

Essential Criteria:

  • Relevant qualifications and experience, with strong knowledge (or willingness to rapidly acquire) of legislation, including the Domestic and Family Violence Protection Act, the Child Protection Act and the Family Law Act.
  • Expertise in engaging young people with complex needs using trauma-informed, culturally sensitive approaches, including case management and group facilitation.
  • Strong collaborative skills, knowledge of community resources, and commitment to child safeguarding principles.
