Midsumma Festival is Australia’s premier LGBTQIA+ cultural organisation based in Victoria. We are committed to fostering communities connected by Diverse Gender and Sexuality (DGS) experiences. Our mission is to celebrate and promote LGBTQIA+ arts and culture while providing platforms for connection and belonging. We focus on intersectional communities, including First Nations, deaf, disabled, neurodiverse, culturally and linguistically diverse individuals, diverse families, and seniors. Every year, Midsumma supports artists and culture-makers, culminating in a three-week festival that spans over 220 events and engages more than 300,000 attendees.

About the Role

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Community Engagement Manager to join our team. In this senior management role, you will lead the development and execution of community engagement and regional participation strategies through programs aligned with Midsumma and the Victoria’s Pride project. Your role will focus on building relationships, supporting artists, and ensuring the inclusivity of diverse communities across Victoria.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement state-wide strategies for community engagement and regional participation.
  • Collaborate with the Victoria’s Pride Project Manager to scope, assess, and deliver regional content and programs.
  • Oversee the Regional Activation Program, managing calls for expressions of interest and project funding allocation.
  • Work closely with local councils, community groups, and stakeholders to maximise engagement.
  • Manage budgets and monitor project performance in consultation with the Victoria’s Pride Project Manager.
  • Coordinate logistical and operational aspects of regional involvement in the Victoria’s Pride Street Party.
  • Provide mentorship to first-time grant applicants, supporting their success.
  • Ensure diverse communities are well-represented within Midsumma’s initiatives.
  • Travel regionally to support project delivery and attend key Midsumma events.

Essential Criteria

  • Proven experience in community arts development or facilitation.
  • Strong project management skills, with experience in large-scale events.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and database systems, with a willingness to learn new tools.
  • A warm, engaging personality, with a deep respect for diverse and LGBTQIA+ communities.

Desirable Skills

  • Familiarity with the Victorian and national arts sectors.
  • Leadership experience, particularly in building relationships and driving program results.
