Skylight Mental Health is recruiting a Community Mental Health Worker to work within their Carer Services program.

The Community Mental Health Worker will ideally have a lived experience of caring for someone who has/is experiencing mental health challenges. The Community Mental Health Worker will work closely with participants to promote recovery, inspire hope, and facilitate a process wherein participants can work toward goals that will improve their wellbeing.

The program provides short term 1:1 support and facilitates Carer Peer Groups within Metropolitan Adelaide.

The Community Mental Health Worker will:

  • Support participants to identify their strengths
  • Build resilience and increase capacity
  • Assist carers to identify and achieve their personal goals
  • Work closely with our partner Carers SA to provide best-practice service delivery
  • Provide warm and informed referrals to external service providers such as mental health, housing, legal, and financial, to assist with improving carer wellbeing
  • Connect carers with community
  • Explore accessing and provide support applying for the NDIS, Carers pensions or DSP
  • Support carers to discover an improved quality of life
  • Facilitate Peer Groups and organise activities and outings that improve carer mental health and wellbeing
  • Support carers to navigate complex service pathways, empowering them to advocate for their needs within the broader social services and health systems, including both non-government and government organisations and programs

Requirements for Success

  • Qualifications or experience relevant to mental health
  • Lived Experience in a mental health-related caring role will be highly regarded
  • Sound knowledge and awareness of mental health challenges
  • Capacity to work both autonomously and within teams
  • Experience with person centred and recovery oriented frameworks
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft programs and relevant software
  • DHS Working with Children Check and NDIS Worker Check – Apply Here
  • Understanding of NDIS application processes highly desirable
  • Full Driver’s License and ability to work across sites
  • Some out of hours work may be required

This role is classified at SCHADS Level 4, 0.6 fte. The role will be based at Skylight Mile End and Christies Beach, servicing multiple areas of the South Australian metropolitan region.
