About the MIGRANT WORKERS CENTRE

The Migrant Workers Centre is a not-for-profit organisation and community legal service open to workers in Victoria who were born overseas. The Centre provides direct legal assistance to workers as well as outreach and training designed to enhance the understanding of workplace rights among the wider migrant community.

The Centre’s activities are organised around three areas of work:

  • Education – helping migrant workers to understand their rights at work by delivering community education that is culturally and linguistically appropriate.
  • Enforcement – assisting migrant workers who are experiencing workplace issues, such as wage theft and discrimination, to enforce their workplace rights and win just outcomes.
  • Advocacy – working with migrant communities to improve their lives in Australia by conducting research, empowering community leaders and members, and advocating to decision-makers.

About the Role

In this exciting position, you’ll play a key role in ensuring smooth day-to-day operations. Supporting and reporting to the CEO, the Administration Co-ordinator is responsible for providing high level executive and secretarial assistance to the Centre and its Board, further ensuring the Centre complies with its reporting and governance requirements.

The Administration Co-ordinator also works closely with the Centre’s staff, providing efficient administrative support in resolving operational issues, such as coordinating meetings, maintaining databases, processing invoices, managing office supplies, and handling communications with external partners.

This position is a fixed-term contract for a 7-month period (maternity leave replacement) and will commence in March 2025.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the smooth operation of the Migrant Workers Centre, including the processing of payments, procurement, and liaising with contractors;
  • Maintain HR and payroll systems including recruitment processes, tracking leave balances and record keeping;
  • Provide logistical support for meetings, workshops and events;
  • Timely and accurate administrative and governance support for the Board;
  • Liaise with the Board, staff and stakeholders on various issues affecting both the Migrant Workers Centre’s office and its projects;
  • Assist the CEO with the preparation of reports and ensuring compliance with its contract and governance reporting and other obligations.

About You

To be successful in this role, you would have:

  • The ability to demonstrate a very high degree of confidentiality and discretion;
  • A high level of written and oral communication skills (effectively communicate with staff, Board members, volunteers, government agencies and other stakeholders);
  • Highly developed organisational and administrative skills, with excellent attention to detail;
  • A strong proficiency in MS Office product suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook);
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to work as a member of a team whilst taking appropriate initiative within delegated authority;
  • Experience in a high-level administration role preferably in the not-for-profit sector;
  • The ability to undertake some work outside of business hours (supporting meetings of the Board, etc);
  • The right to work in Australia.

Remuneration and Other Relevant Information

Starting salary of $85,178.63 ($106,473 1.0 FTE) and attractive conditions, including RDOs, salary packaging, and 12% superannuation.

You will also have additional benefits included in our collective agreement such as flexible working hours, 20% leave loading, and cultural leave provisions to allow you to observe cultural or ceremonial obligations not otherwise provided for under Victorian public holidays.

The position is a fixed term, 7-month contract starting in March 2025 and is based at Carlton South with the ability to work some hours from home.
