About the service

The Adult and Older Adult Mental Health and Wellbeing services, otherwise known as “Locals” act as a front door to the mental health service system. The service provides a continuum of care and support including clinical interventions, wellbeing supports, and therapeutic support through an integrated mental health and alcohol and other drug framework approach.

About the role

We are seeking a problem solving and adaptable Community Mental Health Practitioner for a permanent part time (22.8 hours per week) opportunity in the Melton area. You will provide wellbeing services as part of the Locals to people, families, carers and supporters for people with mental health and/or alcohol and other drugs challenges.

Key responsibilities

  • Work with people accessing the Local to get the support, care and treatment that is important to them through a staged approach.
  • Make linkages and build relationships and referral pathways to maintain or create a range of local supports for people.
  • Support people to return to their community, live independently and enjoy a meaningful life through a staged approach to recovery.
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team offering specialised psychosocial support.

What you’ll bring

  • Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in Mental Health, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Community Services or other professional field as designated by Mind.
  • Experience and expertise in working directly with people with mental health issues, AOD challenges, complex needs and with their families and carers.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to consult, negotiate and influence.
  • Ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively showing initiative and flexibility to follow through on commitments.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Community Services sector and ability to build strong relationships with service providers, clinical teams and key stakeholders.
