About the role

The Adult Prevention and Recovery Care service (APARC) is a residential program providing services to clients aged between 16 - 65 years which utilises a recovery-focused, clinical treatment framework. APARC is designed as a ‘step up, step down’ program for people with mental illness who require individualised treatment and support when entering either from the community or transitioning from acute inpatient care.

We are seeking a compassionate, resilient Community Mental Health Practitioner - Peer Practitioner for a permanent, part time (19 hours per week) opportunity to work alongside a caring team in the Deer Park area. You will utilise your lived experience of mental ill health to engage with clients by providing empathetic and positive support.

Key responsibilities

• Utilise your own lived experience of mental ill health and recovery to inform your work and that of the team.
• Deliver high quality service and facilitate positive educational and social experiences.
• Support clients to return to their community and enjoy a meaningful life through an individual approach to recovery.
• Collaborate with a range of services and the community to ensure a co-ordinated and integrated response to the client’s recovery goals.
• Plan and deliver group programs that aid clients to build their skills and focus on recovery.

What you’ll bring

• Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in Mental Health, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or other health-related field.
• Lived experience of mental ill health and willingness to use this to inform your work is required.
• Expertise in working with people with mental health issues, complex needs and interacting with families and carers.
• Demonstrated understanding of the Community Services sector and ability to build strong relationships with agencies, clinical providers and key stakeholders.
• Relevant experience in facilitating group activities for clients experiencing mental ill health.
