About the role

The Adult and Older Adult Mental Health and Wellbeing services, otherwise known as “Locals”, act as front door to the mental health service system providing a continuum of care and support including clinical interventions, wellbeing supports, and therapeutic support.

We have 3 places available on a 12 month fixed term for Community Mental Health Practitioner – Graduate roles, for the Locals in Bendigo and Echuca. We are seeking recent Graduates from a Certificate IV or Diploma in Mental Health or related area and these roles provide an opportunity to gain firsthand experience and prepare you for a career in Community Mental Health.

You will be supported to work collaboratively with members of other disciplines to develop an understanding of working within a multidisciplinary service whilst participating in a comprehensive and targeted learning and development program to build practical experience of within the mental health service system.

If you are a compassionate individual who wants to work in the mental health sector and you have recently completed your studies in Certificate IV or Diploma in Community Services, Mental Health and related areas then we want to hear from you.

Key responsibilities

  • Contribute to a learning agreement which identifies areas of development.
  • Learn about and begin to practice working with people accessing the Local to get the support that is important to them, walking alongside them through the intake and assessment process and staged recovery approach.
  • Build confidence to deliver group work programs as the lead/co-facilitator.
  • Support family and carer roles through understanding their concerns and the provision of information, education and referrals, especially to Mental Health and Wellbeing Connect centres.

What you’ll bring

  • Completion of Certificate IV or Diploma in Mental Health, or Community Services or related field.
  • A drive and passion to commence a career which supports people who have experienced mental health and or AOD challenges.
  • A commitment to developing interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A commitment to learning how to work both autonomously and collaboratively while showing initiative and flexibility to follow through on commitments.
  • A willingness to welcome people when they access the Local and undertake intake and assessment functions in a manner that maintains people’s dignity and human rights.
