About the role

The Loddon Mallee Mental Health and Wellbeing Connect Centre will operate across the Loddon Mallee region through a partnership with Mallee Family Care.  Centres have been established in Bendigo, Swan Hill and Mildura along with satellite sites across the region. Families, carers and supporters seeking information, advice, referral and peer support will be able to access Centre-based services, receive outreach support and support through telephone and other virtual platforms. Staff will have a lived or living experience as a family member, carer or supporter of someone living with mental ill-health and/or substance use challenges and will deliver services utilising a relational recovery approach, trauma informed practice and peer support. One-on-one support and group-based support will be provided including Mind Recovery College. 

We are seeking for an experienced and compassionate Family and Carer Peer Practitioner Lead to join our team in the Loddon Mallee region. In this role, you will leverage your lived or living experience to provide leadership, supervision, and mentoring to a dedicated team.

As a key leader at the Loddon Mallee Mental Health and Wellbeing Connect Centre, you will support and guide a team that delivers authentic, peer-led assistance to families and carers. Your expertise will be instrumental in fostering a supportive and empowering environment for both your team and the individuals they assist. 

Key responsibilities 

  • Coach and lead a team to deliver high quality services providing authentic, peer-led support and assistance to family and carers
  • Utilise your own lived and living experience of mental ill health and recovery to inform your work and the work of the team.
  • Deliver high quality counselling services and psychological clinical therapies utilising counselling modalities in line with professional and National Standards.
  • Deliver solution-focused, peer-led supports either on a one-on-one basis or via facilitation of peer-led groups.
  • Effectively lead and foster the development of a team to provide best quality services, as defined in the Connect centre service model.
  • Coach staff to think deeply, develop creative solutions and remain motivated in meeting people’s needs and preferences.

What you’ll bring

  • Completion of Intentional Peer Support Core and/or Advanced training is required.
  • Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or Tertiary qualifications in Mental Health, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Community Services or other professional field as designated by Mind is desirable, and or significant experience with the role industry.
  • Proven ability to effectively lead and develop a team through training, supervision and reflective practice to achieve best quality service outcomes.
  • Experience in supporting teams to provide empathic, relational approaches, while recognising positionality, relative power and privilege.
  • Demonstrated understanding of family/carer Lived Experience approaches including peer work, co-design and workforce development.
