About the role

We are seeking an experienced, compassionate Family Engagement Worker for a fixed-term, part-time (19 hours per week) opportunity to work at the Community Care Unit (CCU) residential service in Cairns. In this role, you will advocate and work collaboratively with a team to enable the best outcomes for clients, ensuring that families and carers are supported and included in the services delivery. You will provide information, offer meaningful referrals to external providers and work closely with clinical partners to ensure an integrated, individualised service response.

This role also provide practice leadership, guiding staff in delivering psychosocial rehabilitation, recovery programs, and support services in line with Mind’s Recovery-Oriented Practice and values. 

About the Service

The Community Care Unit (CCU) is a residential service providing intensive treatment and recovery support to help people experiencing serious mental health issues whose lives have been disrupted making living independently difficult. Clients have 24/7 access to staff and are supported to stabilise their mental health, define recovery goals, build daily living skills, strengthen relationships, develop social connections, and increase their capacity to live independently. The CCU service offers personalised one-to-one support, shared support, workshops, and group activities aligned with each client’s individual recovery plan.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide support to clients using recovery orientated and Family Inclusive frameworks.
  • Deliver high quality services and facilitate positive educational and social experiences.
  • Build rapport and develop trusted relationships with clients, families and carers.
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team offering specialised psychosocial support.
  • Collaborate with a range of services and the community to ensure a co-ordinated, integrated response to the client’s recovery goals. 

What you’ll bring

  • Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in Mental Health, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or other health-related field.
  • Expertise in family engagement work and co-design approaches.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Community Services sector and ability to build strong relationships with service providers, clinical teams and key stakeholders.
  • Able to provide a record of Vaccination Preventable Diseases or able to obtain vaccinations against Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Chicken Pox, Whooping Cough, Hepatitis B or other diseases as required by our Partnership with QLD Health.
