About the role

The Keep Embracing Your Success (KEYS) provides a multidisciplinary program for young people aged 12-17 years who are experiencing highly complex emotional and behavioural challenges due to mental health concern and adversity and currently in, or are likely to be placed in, out-of-home-care (OOHC). KEYS East is a partnership between MacKillop Family Services, Mind Australia, Victorian Aboriginal Child Care Agency (VACCA) and Youth Support & Advocacy Service (YSAS), delivering an innovative and transitional model across a 12 month placement and 6-months outreach. Taking a new approach to working with highly vulnerable young people in OOHC who exhibit complex, risky and challenging behaviours, staff are supported to utilise holistic, trauma-informed therapeutic approaches to promote individual wellbeing and recovery. Young people receive a range of supports and therapeutic interventions, assisting with the transition towards home-based care or directly to independent living.

We are seeking an experienced, high performing Senior Mental Health Clinician for a fixed term, full time opportunity to work in the Eastern suburbs area. You will hold a case load of young people and work closely with the KEYS psychiatrist and consortium’s multidisciplinary team in the development and delivery of comprehensive support plans. You will also provide management and leadership of Mind’s service input into the KEYS East program. You will provide strong leadership, direct all aspects of Mind’s program and ensure a high standard of service delivery to support young people work towards recovery goals and enjoy a positive future. The Manager – Mental Health Clinician will also be accountable for staff management and achievement of service performance and budget targets.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead delivery of high quality services and facilitate positive educational and social experiences.
  • Support trauma informed assessment, formulation and delivery of plan with young people to support their return to their community and enjoy a meaningful life through a strength-focused, staged approach to recovery.
  • Coach and mentor effective practice to multidisciplinary team of staff working with young people, provide support to families and carers, and plan and deliver group work.
  • Guide a high performing team by engaging staff, setting clear direction and performance expectations.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations including planning budget expenditure and delivery of agreed service performance targets.

What you’ll bring

  • Tertiary degree qualifications in Mental Health, Social Work, Allied Health, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Psychology or other health related field as designated by Mind
  • Proven experience in Youth Work, Community Services, Mental Health, Disability, Social Welfare, Housing or Healthcare or Government sectors is required.
  • Expertise working with young people with mental health issues, highly complex needs and emotional/behavioural difficulties, and interacting with families and carers.
  • Significant experience in implementing therapeutic, recovery-oriented frameworks and practices including risk mitigation, trauma informed care and family inclusive practice.
