The Cairns Medicare Mental Health Centre, delivered in partnership with Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Services, provides a welcoming, low stigma, and soft entry point for engagement, assessment, and treatment for people experiencing distress or crisis, offering an alternative to the emergency department. Operating seven days a week with extended hours, it offers immediate, short and medium-term clinical and non-clinical support, including telehealth services and ongoing support in areas such as alcohol and drug support, housing, and social services.
We are seeking self-motivated, empathetic Peer Practitioners for permanent, part-time (30.4 hours/week) opportunities to join our new service in Cairns As part of a multidisciplinary team, you will utilise the learnings from your lived/living experience of mental health and/or alcohol and drug challenges to walk alongside service users, empowering them to identify their goals and take steps toward recovery.
As a Peer Practitioner, you will champion the voice of lived experience, advocate for human rights and provide an alternative to traditional mental health responses through the practice of mutuality. The role requires flexibility to work within a 7- day roster including evenings and weekends.
