About the role

We are seeking compassionate and experienced Peer Practitioners for casual opportunities within our psychosocial team in the Perth Metro area. You will utilise your lived or living experience of mental health challenges to connect with young people through assertive outreach, coordinate support services, and empower them to achieve wellbeing goals, maintain stable housing, build confidence, manage day-to-day living, and engage with education and/or employment. Ideal candidates will have at least two years' experience and a genuine passion for supporting others on their recovery journey.

About the Service

The Youth Psychosocial Support Package (YPSP) is a psychosocial program to support young people aged 16-24 years who have a mental illness, while living independently or in the family home. The service supports young people through the development of an Individualised Recovery Plan developed in partnership with the young person, their family and carers. The service will focus on supporting young people to increasingly participate in and contribute to community, social, educational, vocational, employment and economic life.

Key responsibilities

  • Draw on the broader Lived Experience knowledge base to inform your practice.
  • Provide tailored and integrated case managed responses to young people through flexible outreach.
  • Deliver high-quality services to respond to the unique needs of young people, offering a flexible and person-centred approach.
  • Connect service users with resources and support to build positive relationships, expand their community networks, and access relevant services.
  • Collaborate with various services and the community to ensure coordinated support for the young person's recovery goals.

What you’ll bring

  • Completion of Intentional Peer Support Core and/ or Advanced Training, or Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work, is desirable but not required.
  • Tertiary qualifications are required in Mental Health, Peer Work, Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) or other health related field as designated by Mind.
  • Lived or living experience of mental distress and recovery and willingness to support clients through sharing learnings and recovery orientated practice is required.
  • Previous experience in using lived experience and expertise in a dedicated Peer role.
  • Experience, expertise and/or desire in working directly with people with mental health issues, and their families and carers.
