About the role

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager for a fixed-term, full-time opportunity to lead the establishment of the Cairns Medicare Mental Health Centre. In this role, you will act as a liaison between the project team and senior management, utilising proven project management methodologies and tools to plan, monitor, and report on the progress of the Establishment Project Plans (EPPs).

You will proactively identify and mitigate risks, coordinate people and processes, and ensure project milestones are delivered on time, within budget, and aligned with Mind’s objectives. 

Working collaboratively with the General Manager, Complex Care National Services, and other key stakeholders, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the successful establishment of the new service.

The role will primarily be based in Cairns, but occasional travel to other locations may be required.

About the new Service

The Cairns Medicare Mental Health Centre will provide a welcoming, low-stigma, and accessible entry point for engagement, assessment, and treatment for people experiencing distress or crisis. It will offer immediate, short-term, and medium-term clinical and non-clinical support while connecting people with ongoing services.

Key responsibilities

  • Coordinate the Establishment Project Plans (EPPs) by overseeing resources, ensuring they are fit for purpose, managing risks, implementing communication strategies, and ensuring alignment to deliver successful outcomes on time and within budget.
  • Provide regular project progress updates, including financial reporting, and ensure effective budget management.
  • Oversee project governance, risk management, and reporting, proactively identifying and resolving potential issues
  • Oversee financial management, budgeting, and reporting, ensuring EPPs are delivered within time, cost, and scope parameters.
  • Manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including vendors, as required.

What you’ll bring

  • Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in Project Management, IT, Business, Mental Health, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or other related field as designated by Mind, or equivalent experience in a similar industry.
  • Proven experience in project management or transferable skills in a similar industry.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with experience in building high-performing teams.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and negotiate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience in financial management, budget control, and reporting.
  • Resilience and the ability to manage uncertainty in a complex, changing environment.
