Your Opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity to join us as a Community Chaplain in Midtown. This role will be implemented to support the development of a vibrant integrated community at Macquarie Park’s Ivanhoe Estate, including 2000 private and 1000 social and affordable dwellings.
In collaboration with other external stakeholders, MA Housing will be providing wrap-around support services to people from a range of socio-economic backgrounds, where the community Chaplain will work to build a strong and connected community, providing a sense of welcome, support and respect for new and returning tenants. You will be working closely with Mission Australia Service Delivery Teams as well as collaborating with other church leaders in the Rhyde area.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
- Be available to listen to community members who have a need to talk about personal issues and circumstances
- Provide pastoral care, information and support to community members empowering them to explore future goals, grow and confront personal challenges (and negative patterns of behaviour when necessary)
- Support MA staff in interactions with community members and engage with community members with whom MA and other services have difficulty connecting
- Assist access to external support services and community resources as required (e.g. health and wellbeing services, employment services, housing, sports clubs, arts groups)
- Connect and build relationships with local churches and faith groups to promote opportunities to offer support for MA clients / tenants and promote the services of local churches and faith groups
- Facilitate the engagement of church / faith group programs (and members) with community groups and personal development opportunities
- Provide services with a spiritual and / or religious content including facilitating discussion groups where requested by community members, in consultation with local faith communities and subject to the approval of the local senior leadership of Mission Australia
Requirements for Success
- A Degree/Diploma in Chaplaincy/CPE/Ministry or a minimum of five years’ experience in a similar role in a Christian Church or Community Sector
- A comprehensive understanding of the issues and needs of program target group and working with churches and to spread the knowledge of God’s love with sensitivity
- Demonstrated ability to work cross denominationally while maintaining the Bible as the inspired word of God
- Experience in local churches, case management, counselling or pastoral work
- Experience in community consultation, facilitation and partnership development
- Influential communication skills - verbal, listening, written and digital
- Demonstrated ability to act with initiative and create strategic solutions to presenting problems
