Your Opportunity

Join our team and play a pivotal role in driving sustainable health outcomes for our staff injured during the course of their employment. Reporting to the National WHS & Wellbeing Manger, this role is responsible for workers compensation claims management in NSW and Victoria but will be required to, at times, manage workers compensation claims and return to work in other states when other Injury Management and WHS coordinators are on leave.

As a key contributor, you will ensure compliance with workers' compensation legislation across various jurisdictions, while supporting both internal and external stakeholders throughout the return-to-work process to minimize costs and claim durations. Additionally, you will contribute to workplace health and safety projects under the guidance of the National Workplace Health, Safety, and Wellbeing Manager.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Report injuries to the insurer within required timeframes
  • Develop strong ongoing relationships with injured workers, managers, insurer and other service providers to achieve the best possible return to work outcomes
  • Facilitate communication between all stakeholders including injured worker, insurer, health professionals and managers Identify any barriers to a successful return to pre-injury duties and drive strategies to mitigate
  • Develop detailed and individualised Recover at Work plans in consultation with all parties to achieve the best possible return to work outcomes
  • With the oversight and direction of the National WHS + WB manager, participate in regular strategic claims reviews with insurer and broker to minimise claims costs
  • Maintain regular contact with insurers to ensure effective claims management
  • Respond and record activities when notified through the internal Risk and Incident reporting system, managers or via internal WHS team members when an injury has occurred
  • Compensation management: Maintain wage records, instruct payroll and manage reimbursements
  • Gather monthly statistics and provide data for reporting to all stakeholders including Executive Committee and the Mission Australia Board
  • Observe any injury trends and develop appropriate strategies including suitable duties registers to facilitate early RTW work and improved health outcomes

Requirements for Success

  • NSW & Victoria Return to work coordinator training or willingness to obtain
  • Other states Return to Work coordinator training or willingness to obtain
  • Workers compensation insurance case management experience, or previous experience as a RTW coordinator
  • Strong working knowledge and application of NSW workers compensation legislation
  • A general understanding of work health and safety legislation
  • Understanding of the complexity of managing psychological/ psychosocial injury management and return to work
  • Experience in developing and/or monitoring Recover at Work Plans
  • Reporting and procedure writing experience with competency in MS office programs
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with various stakeholders
  • Ability to influence, coordinate and facilitate between multiple stakeholders
  • Attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities
