Mob 4 Mob is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Disability body dedicated to providing a much-needed voice for our communities living with disability in Queensland.

A community-controlled organisation, Mob for Mob was established to raise issues impacting the resilience of our mob with disability by focusing on crucial areas such as education, health, housing, the justice system and transport from a cultural perspective.

We are committed to enhancing the human rights and well-being of First Nations mob with disabilities in Queensland through:

  • Establishing a peak body dedicated to providing a voice for our communities living with disability in Queensland.
  • Representing diverse groups including Aboriginal, South Sea, and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • Empowering First Nations mob with disabilities for mutual support.
  • Undertaking systemic disability advocacy.
  • Advancing the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
  • Identifying and addressing service and support gaps.
  • Creating culturally safe spaces for First Nations mob with disabilities.

Position Overview

The Program Director is a leadership role for a First Nations person with disability. This role ensures Mob 4 Mob stays strong, grows, and continues to advocate for the rights of First Nations mob with disabilities.

Reporting to the CEO, the Program Director will support the organisation’s strategic direction, help expand membership, and build strong relationships with community members, government, and partners. They will also assist with board recruitment and will provide updates on the organisation’s work to the funders and the Board of Directors.

This role suits someone who is passionate about community advocacy and has experience in co-design, stakeholder engagement, and strategic planning.

Key Responsibilities

1. Leadership and Strategy

  • Work with CEO to develop and implement strategic plans that meet Mob 4 Mob’s goals and objectives.
  • Lead Mob 4 Mob’s work co-designing Queensland’s first peak body for First Nations mob with disability.
  • Identify and prioritise systemic issues affecting First Nations mob with disabilities and coordinate advocacy efforts.

2. Community and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Lead yarning circles.
  • Expand Mob 4 Mob’s membership base.
  • Represent Mob 4 Mob in the community and build strong relationships with stakeholders, including donors, partners, and government.
  • Develop and implement communication strategies to enhance the organisation’s public image and to advance the interests of First Nation mob with disabilities.

5. Governance and Reporting

  • Provide regular updates and reports to funders on key milestones, including:
    • Establishing a web and phone referral service for Mob 4 Mob.

    • Delivering information, advice, and referral services to First Nations people with disability, their families, and carers.

    • Engaging in systemic advocacy related to NDIS, DRC, and disability reforms.

  • Assist in recruiting and supporting Board members.

6. Extent of Authority

  • Work autonomously while collaborating with the CEO and Operations Officer.
  • Lead initiatives within organisational policy and strategic priorities.
  • Exercise leadership and judgement to ensure effective implementation of Mob 4 Mob’s goals.

Essential Criteria

  • First Nations person.
  • Extensive connections to community and knowledge of cultural protocols.
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting the rights, interests and aspirations of First Nations mob with disabilities.
  • Experience in strategic planning, community outreach, and program development.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills working with a small team and external stakeholders.
  • Disability Worker Screening.

Desirable Criteria

  • Lived experience as a person with disability.
  • Strong understanding of governance and working with a Board of Directors.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in social work, community services, management, or a related field.
  • Experience in a leadership or coordination role within the social, community, home care, or disability services sector.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft environments, including SharePoint and Outlook.
