The Finance Officer will play a key role in managing the financial records and bookkeeping functions for both The Women’s Resilience Centre and The Resilience Circle. Reporting to the Finance, Operations, and Compliance Manager, this role is responsible for ensuring financial transactions are accurately recorded, reconciliations are completed, and financial reporting obligations are met. The role requires experience in Xero and an understanding of financial management within a not-for-profit or charitable organisation.

Key Responsibilities

Bookkeeping & Financial Transactions:

  • Accurately record financial transactions in Xero.

  • Maintain and reconcile bank accounts and petty cash.

  • Process accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely payments and invoicing.

  • Process journal entries

  • Reconciliation of balance sheet accounts

Payroll & Compliance:

  • Process payroll and ensure compliance with relevant taxation and superannuation obligations.
  • Management of employee fringe benefit salary packaging arrangements.
  • Maintain employee records for leave, entitlements, and timesheets.
  • Prepare end of year payroll reconciliation
  • Ensure compliance with financial policies, procedures, employment obligations and reporting requirements.

Financial Reporting, Budgeting and Compliance:

  • Assist with the preparation of monthly financial reports and board reports.
  • Assist with the preparation of annual budgets and forecasts.
  • GST accounting including preparation, reporting and lodgment of BAS/IAS statements.
  • Assist with preparation of financial reports for grant acquittal reporting or other funding acquittal, reporting and costing
  • Assist with preparation of audit documentation to meet organisation’s audit requirements.

Donation & Fundraising Reconciliation:

  • Process and reconcile donations, grants, and fundraising revenue.
  • Work with fundraising and operations teams to track financial contributions and ensure transparency.

General Administration & Support:

  • Maintaining strong and accurate internal controls and accounting records.
  • Assist with other financial and/or operational tasks as required.
  • Liaise with auditors, banks, suppliers, and other stakeholders as required.
  • Assist in process improvements for financial efficiency and accountability.

Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience as a Finance Officer/Bookkeeper in a not-for-profit or charity setting (preferred).

  • Strong proficiency in Xero and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).

  • Understanding of Australian accounting principles, GST, payroll tax, and superannuation.

  • Experience with financial reporting, budgeting, and reconciliation processes.

  • High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple financial tasks efficiently.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a small team.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and integrity when handling financial information.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Bookkeeping (or equivalent experience).
