We are seeking an Education and Compliance Officer (ESD) who can establish and implement new compliance processes for existing standards, as well as the promotion of, current and future updated Environmentally Sustainable Development (ESD) standards.

You will ensure Council's statutory planning requirements for ESD are being effectively implemented and monitor, evaluate and report on the effectiveness of Council's statutory planning requirements for ESD.

This role provides expert advice to inform and educate the development community about requirements for ESD and related benefits.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide guidance and educational support to industry operators, including developers and construction site personnel, on optimal practices for ESD.
  • Educate planning applicants and staff about meeting statutory ESD requirements to ensure Council receives high quality planning applications and conducts accurate assessments.
  • Support the Environmental Sustainable Design (ESD) officer with processing ESD in planning applications to support improvement in levels of compliance.
  • Work alongside the Planning and Building Enforcement Officers to educate and monitor compliance with ESD requirements.
  • Advise developers, property owners and occupiers of their ESD obligations under the provision of land use planning and development legislation, Council policy, the planning scheme and planning approvals.
  • Ensure compliance with ESD regulatory requirements through assessing ESD features in practical application.

Skills & Experience required

  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant field is essential (i.e. planning, environmental sustainable development, engineering and/or construction).
  • Demonstrated knowledge, and experience, in the research, development, implementation and monitoring of environmental strategies, policies and guidelines (preferred).
  • Understanding of mediation processes, conflict resolution and liaison.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in addition to strong customer service skills.
  • Current Australian Driver's Licence.
